Flat Roof Slab
Description
Knauf Insulation Flat Roof Slab is a range of consistent density rock wool slabs, manufactured using new Rocksilk technology, for use in flat roof applications where loading and impact resistance is required. Knauf Insulation Flat Roof Slab has high compressive strength with the added benefit of good thermal, acoustic and fire resistant properties.
Note: A superior alternative solution compared to ‘high density rock wool with a membrane’ for Flat Roof construction is ‘low density glasswool with metal roof’. This alternative solution has the following advantages:
- Faster construction
- Easier waterproofing
- Easier materials handling
Applications
For thermal insulation in flat roofs, Knauf Insulation Flat Roof Slab has been specially designed to offer good energy efficiency performance, and excellent fire and acoustic resistance. Flat Roof Slab is suitable for use under all kinds of single ply membrane and with hot applied bitumen systems, the consistent density of Knauf Insulation Flat Roof slab provides excellent long term performance under compression loading. Knauf Insulation Flat Roof Slab has the highest A1 fire classification.

Installation
Knauf Insulation Flat Roof Slab is suitable for use on all types of roof deck. For use with single ply roofing systems a vapour control layer is laid over the deck with all joints sealed. The insulation slabs are then laid in a staggered pattern. For mechanically fixed membranes the slabs are fixed to the deck with two fixings equally spaced in the centre of each slab. For use with bitumen or mastic asphalt a vapour control layer is created and the Knauf Insulation Flat Roof Slabs are bonded in this layer to the deck. The chosen waterproofing system is then installed.
Handling and Storage
All Knauf Insulation Flat Roof Slab products are supplied on non-returnable wooden pallets wrapped in a polythene shroud for temporary protection during transit and on site. For longer term outside storage (stock or site) the pallets should be stored under a secure waterproof covering.
Technical Properties
Thermal Performance
Knauf Insulation Flat Roof Slab has a thermal conductivity of 0.038 W/mK. In a typical metal deck construction the standard thickness of 140mm Flat Roof Slab will achieve a U-value of 0.25 W/m2K.
Fire Resistance
Knauf Insulation Flat Roof Slab is classified as Euroclass A1 BS EN ISO 135011. The rock wool in Knauf Insulation Flat Roof Slab products has an extremely high melting point of over 1000°C. In the event of fire it will emit negligible quantities of smoke and fumes. The heat emission from the products is insignificant.
Compressive Resistance
Knauf Insulation Flat Roof Slab has a compressive strength of 70KPa.
Certification
The rock wool of Knauf Insulation Flat Roof Slab is non-combustible inorganic rock wool, defined as mineral wool in BS 3533, manufactured in accordance with BSI Quality Assurance Standard BS EN ISO 9001: 2000.
